RELIGION

1.       How can we create an ethical relationship between religion and business so that they may cooperate towards a more sustainable and respectful development of life?

Religious and economic actors are obliged to observe and respect each other because historically they are related, being based that in the begging of times all the power even the economic one was concentrated in church and nowadays this institution have much influence and power over the population, in this order of ideas it is important for the businesses to act and specially develop their ideas according to what is going to be accepted by the church and their ethical ideas.

2.       Can you imagine a world without religion where everyone would be trying to get immediate satisfaction to their individual needs?

Imagine a world like this is not easy because in the common mind of men, conceiving such an idea is irrational, but being practical, in that world things could be out of control, poverty rates would be very high, as that violence and all socio-cultural phenomena that are controlled from the imposition of a religious ideology or the result of the same, so, nothing guarantees that the statement had to be met, what if this new freedom brings with it a greater union of peoples, a diversification of ideas and inventions, sustainable development of all sectors of the economy of a nation but the truth is that a situation like this would clearly depend on the heart, culture and instincts of the societies in which occurs something similar to the given example.

3.       Religion can create networks of trust and familiarity that facilitates economic transactions. Can you name other positive aspects of this relationship?

Sure, they have done throughout the history of mankind and will remain so until the last day of this institution. Religion can rely on the kindness of individuals to achieve their primary objective, has no problem on addressing the future of a nation, turning the inhabitants      into people without voice or vote against their freedom of choice, religious ends up being a profitable business that does not require a large initial investment and self-sustained, generating immediate resources, it becomes part of general consultation and support of the financial, political and military sector (among others).

4.       Do you think that stereotyping based on religion has been influenced by economic or political interests, why, whose? What is the role of The Media in this issue?

Definitely it is, people in the economic and political sector has always taken advantage of the differences from one religion to another and maybe it is there is an undercurrent of religion and creed, something like a large company that meets investor´s needs at the expense of suffering and sacrifice of some and the constant and endless submission of a number of followers or believers. Whoever is behind this? Impossible to imagine, but there must exist someone who represents those interests. The media can lead to an industry elects to follow the guidelines of a man or institution, as it is they who have the power of information, practical and safe mechanism to change the thinking and culture of a company in short, medium and long term.

VIRTUAL TEAMS

In today’s world where companies work together to achieve a goal no matter where they are, virtual teams are playing a key work because these people join efforts through communication technology to break barriers of time and space and for companies to be faster and much more competitive.  The existence of this group of individuals allows organizations to have the best people regardless of location. Despite of what many people think about the infeasibility of virtual teams, the truth is that people working with virtual teams shows more commitment to the task assigned which means a better performance. Also the way they communicate eliminates and minimizes the cultural differences that in face-to-face communication it would be “a pain in the neck”.

BUILDING A SUCCESSFUL VIRTUAL TEAM
  • It is important for the team to have an initial face-to-face contact that would make them to recognize each other, and to create an idea about the other person.
  • In order to resolve conflicts and be clear about a task or goal, having periodic face-to-face meetings would prevent many problems and inconsistencies.
  • Establish their own norms and protocols for behavior, this is to eliminate the complications that culture differences could bring in a group
  • Use visual in communication

COMMUNICATION

Intercultural communication is an area responsible for assessing, monitoring, and identify and propose mechanisms to maintain communication between people with different customs and origins. It is vitally because since its appearance in human reality has achieved a better interaction between peoples in various topics such as market, politics, entertainment, culture, science and across multiple disciplines. Non-verbal communication has a lot of importance because it can completely reverse the reactions of the people not against what they say but what the gestures convey. Human uses nonverbal communication even before he could speak for the first time and the why they communicate with their moms is through gestures, reactions and the most important, crying.

Which ones are the main Cultural Differences in Non-verbal Communication?

Generally cultural expressions in humans are due more to instinct than to the same place where they come from, giving the concept that we use the same expressions in situations where we feel happiness, sadness, fear, etc. Societies are responsible for implementing rules governing the proper treatment, the nobility and the behavior of people, this because of the need to comply with appropriate conduct in community life, which sometimes simply is not met.

The body and head in denial: generally, the inopportune knowledge of these differences result in uncomfortable moments with people from different latitudes, in order to avoid these misunderstandings is necessary to pay close attention to body language of other individuals and even adopt the ritual of the place where you are.

In business, since expressions are present, negotiating in East Asia or Latin is not the samebody language becoming an important tool that can help to validate what is being communicated. You can use the best words and phrases but against a bad expression, it is difficult understand exactly what you are trying to communicate; the expressions are what give meaning to the words because they are the ones who send the entire message to whom you try to communicate with.

MIGRANT WORKERS

Migrant workers are people who move from one country to another in order get a job or pursuing a better life, Migrant workers often work in hotels or restaurants, food processing, fruit  picking and shellfish gathering (UK) but they can also work in companies with management positions ranging from managers to secretaries. Being a migrant worker usually generates Brain Drain (ex: Colombian scientific working in a laboratory in Switzerland).

Sometimes the term can be confused or mixed with expatriates and an overseas experiences but the main difference is that while a migrant is traveling to get a job, expatriates are sent by a company to accomplish a goal and the overseas experience travel on their own, to get cultural experiences or to learn a foreign language.

What can governments and the private sector do to improve migrant’s conditions?

GOVERNMENT
PRIVATE SECTOR

·         Works as intermediaries in front of the government for paperwork to be easier.

·         Have hiring policies based on ethical and legal behavior. And also promote those behaviors in other companies.
